What is Emberrun?

A daily survival roguelike told in text. Each day brings a single new story, the same for every player — a shipwreck, a storm-battered lighthouse, a long night in the mountains. Read the situation, swipe or tap to choose, and try to reach dawn alive.

How do I play?

Swipe left or right, Reigns-style, or tap to choose. Each choice has a cost. Keep your four resources — Warmth, Food, Health and Hope — above zero; if any one runs out, the night takes you.

What happens when I die?

You get a few lives and a few checkpoints. Die and you slip back to the last fire to try again — but not forever.

Is it a new story every day?

Yes. One story a day, shared by everyone, with no endless feed. Today's first story is cached on your device, so reopening the app is free. Miss a day and tomorrow brings a brand new one.

Do I need the internet?

You need a connection to load the day's story. After it has loaded, Emberrun plays offline — on the subway, on a flight, or anywhere with no signal.

How does sharing work?

When a run ends you can share a spoiler-free card — an emoji trail of the choices you made and how it ended. It never includes any story text, so you can compare with friends without giving anything away.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no sign-up. Your history and stats are stored on your device.

Does it cost anything?

No — Emberrun is free to play, with no ads and no gambling.

How do I turn notifications on or off?

Emberrun can send an optional daily reminder so you don't miss the day's run. You can turn notifications on or off any time in iOS Settings, and the game works fully without them.

How do I reset my progress?

Your history and stats are stored on your device. Deleting the app removes all of its local data.
